Charlene Helton who is a member of the Nada Baptist Mission was selected as a Governor's Scholar for 2010 and was one of the 2011 high school valedictorians.

A total of eleven new houses were built during 2010-2011 with a federal CDBG grant.

The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship in 2001 made a twenty year commitment to the twenty poorest counties in the United States. Kentucky has two of those counties, Owsley and MCreary.  This  is called the Rural Poverty Initiative of the Together for Hope
program.

The Kentucky name for this program is Mountain Hope. (www.kybf.org) The main activity each year in McCreary County is the Extreme Build project.


Paula Settle is the CBF field personnel serving in Owsley County and in Nada, Ky. which is in Powell County.  Nada is a pocket of poverty in Powell County and there has been a
Baptist witness in this small community for over twenty years  by First Baptist Church in
Winchester, KY.

Owsley County has a population of some 4800 people.  Booneville is the county seat.   The Nada community has some fifty families. Stanton is the county seat of Powell County.
